I joined the Navy right after high school in 1974, served on aircraft carriers and with Special Warfare, and when my first enlistment was over I went directly to college. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at Seattle University in 1983 and then went to work for one of the Big-8 Accouting Firms, Coopers & Lybrand and earned my CPA license. I was commissioned as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve in 1988, just about the time I left the accounting world for law school. I finished law school in 1992 and worked as an associate attorney for a law firm in California for one year. When I returned home in 1994, I opened my own practice and have been practicing solo ever since.
My naval career was long and rewarding, leading to my eventual promotion to Commander, and to graduation from the U.S. Naval War College in 2003. I was asked to become a professor for the Naval War College, a position I hold to this day, teaching a Masters level class here in the Northwest. I also taught Business Law and Accounting at Tacoma Community College, as well as several other institutions.
